Historic District Commission

Pursuant to Governor Baker’s March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, §18, and the Governor’s March 15, 2020 Order imposing strict limitation on the number of people that may gather in one place, upcoming meetings of the Historic District Commission will be conducted via remote participation using the Microsoft Teams platform. No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but the public can listen and/or view the meeting while in progress. Meeting agendas will specifically note how to access each meeting.  

Members of the public attending virtually will be allowed to make comments during the portion of the meeting designated for public comment. Members of the public who would like to submit written comments prior to the meeting may do so by emailing Marissa Meaney (mmeaney@swampscottma.gov). (Please note that written comments should be received by 4 pm the day prior to the meeting.)

Historic District Commission Function

Pursuant to the Town's General By-laws (SGB), Article IX, Section 7, the Commission is created to oversee the Historic District of Swampscott.

Historic Districts of Swampscott

The District consists of "district areas" as provided in SGB Article IX, Section 7 (M) which include:

  • Frederick Law Olmsted Local Historic District
  • Swampscott Fish House Local Historic District
  • Swampscott Railroad Depot Local Historic District
  • Swampscott Cemetery and Andrews Chapel Local Historic District

2 Alternate Members, Three-Year (3) Appointments.
