Message from Town Administrator - 4/24/20

Good Afternoon—this is Sean Fitzgerald, Swampscott’s Town Administrator.  Its Friday, April 24th and I want to share a few updates regarding our COVID-19 response and the Town’s ongoing efforts to protect you and your family.

First, I am so very sorry to report that this week, we have learned of the first Swampscott losses from Covid 19. Unfortunately, as of today, we now have lost three (3) residents and over the next few weeks, there will likely be more.  Now, these losses have really hit home.  These losses remind us all how essential it is to continue our efforts and work to protect each other during this outbreak.

While we express our deepest condolences to the families and friends grieving their loved ones during this difficult time, we must stay strong and continue to be safe.  Now, more than ever, we urge all Swampscott residents to stay the course with steps you are taking to physically distance yourselves and families from others.  This is the one thing that we all can do to stop the spread of this deadly virus.

As of today, there are over 77 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Swampscott – a significant increase from last week.  I want to remind everyone that the Swampscott Select Board and Swampscott Board of Health’s STAY AT HOME ORDER & MASK ORDER are still in place.  We also cannot stress enough the importance of proper hygiene.

Swampscott Public Schools, Swampscott Senior Center, and Anchor Food Pantry continue to provide free meals and groceries to any resident in need. We continue to need your donations and you can help support Anchor Food Pantry by using the link on their Facebook page.  The Grab-n-Go lunches are available at the Swampscott High School Monday through Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm. Meals and Masks are available for pick up or delivery by calling the Swampscott Senior Center at 781-596-8866.

I am amazed at the love and care shown by dozens of residents volunteering to provide supplies for and to make facemasks.  If you are willing to volunteer to make masks or to provide supplies, please volunteer at www.swampscottma.gov.

Finally, as the weather gets nicer, let’s all keep faith with staying safe and isolated.  I know some want to go out and show support for some of our essential workers and our neighbor and Governor for leading us all through this crisis.  However, I urge you all to simply stay at home.  While some may protest, to counter-protest would be simply counter-productive.

In closing, know that I am proud of what Swampscott and our residents are doing to help each other through these challenging times. The sun will be out tomorrow and better days will come soon so thanks for all the love and support shown by the people of Swampscott—you are kind, supportive and simply amazing in how you all are responding to these unprecedented challenges!

Take care.
