Humphrey Street Parking Study

The Town of Swampscott secured a technical assistance grant to work with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to perform a parking analysis study of the downtown Humphrey Street area. The Town has been focusing on the revitalization of its historic downtown over the past 10+ years. Now that a number of planning projects have been performed, the Town is moving into implementation on many of the steps recommended in those planning objectives. Significant streetscape improvements have been made including the installation of sidewalk extensions, bicycle lanes, and (soon) new historic lighting.

The community has seen strong business activity within this district. There are many great dining establishments that are complimented by service, specialty goods, clothing, and convenience shops. With the opening of new businesses as well as the creation of the Humphrey Street Overlay Zoning District, the Town is now focused on analyzing and developing a parking management plan for this district.

Planners from MAPC have collected parking statistics in the district over the summer and fall. They've evaluated the parking trends as well as the public and private parking infrastructure (spaces and signage) in the district. Provided below are materials and presentations that were made as part of this study.
