Any couple planning to get married in Massachusetts must file a Notice of Intention of Marriage. The couple must appear at the Town Clerk’s Office together, during regular business hours, to file the intention they must pay a $25.00 filing fee. Once issued, the marriage license is valid for 60 days. There is a mandatory three-day waiting period, not including the day you file the notice of intention, before the marriage license can be issued. After the wedding, the officiant (priest, minister, rabbi, Justice of the Peace) must return the completed and signed marriage license to the Town Clerk for recording and registration. The document then becomes a marriage
