THE MISSION OF THE SWAMPSCOTT COUNCIL ON AGING IS
· To serve all seniors with dignity and positive regard.
· To identify and respond to the needs of elders and to advocate on their behalf.
· To promote an awareness in the community of issues regarding seniors.
The Swampscott Senior Center is located at 200 Essex Street, Rear. The building is adjacent to Swampscott High School.
Meals are served 5 days a week from 11:45am until 12:20pm. No reservations are required for lunch. Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors are available. Presently Greater Lynn Senior Services deliver approximately 50 meals to Swampscott residents. A 2.00 donation is suggested.
Transportation is a very important part of the services offered to Swampscott seniors. The Council continues to offer transportation to and from the Center for the lunch program for Swampscott residents. Food shopping and banking take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays.
TRIPS IN MOTION
Small group trips take place monthly. See our newsletter, the Compass, or call the Senior Center for more information.
The Outreach Program offers the senior community the services of a staff person who meets and/or visits with individuals on a confidential basis in order to assess their needs. Issues regarding transportation, home health care, Meals on Wheels, nursing home and adult day care are just some of the many areas in which information and assistance are available. In addition, special initiatives such as the Farmers Market Coupon Program, Are You O.K.? the telephone reassurance program, and the new Interfaith Food Pantry are all part of our expanded outreach effort.
INFORMATION AND REFERRAL
One of the most essential services that we offer is that of information and referral. Many families of elders often find themselves in need of certain types of assistance that we may not be able to directly provide. It is in these cases that we must be able to refer them to the proper individuals or agencies that can best solve their problems in a timely and efficient manner.
· Blood Pressure clinics take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 AM to 12 PM
· Hearing Screenings
· Podiatry Services
A senior men’s club has grown to over 60 members. The men meet monthly for a luncheon at the Senior Center. These meetings usually include a speaker who addresses a topic that is relevant to seniors.
